New Rounding Up project: Financial education and integration for migrant women in Berlin

Published January 2, 2024
Two hands are intertwined, following the “pinky promise” gesture, with the little fingers wrapped around each other. The left hand belongs to a person of color, and the right hand belongs to a white person. The background is blurred, with natural light falling on a natural-colored wall. The image features the logo of the organization “Project Tres” and a pop-up window with a button to activate Rounding Up in the app.

Together with you, we are supporting a new project as part of our Rounding Up feature: Your donation will go to Project Tres, enabling the economic empowerment and social integration of migrant women in Berlin. The pilot program focuses on financial independence, cultural orientation, and self-determination – creating spaces where women can connect and empower each other. Here’s why we chose this project and how your donation will have a concrete impact.

With our Rounding Up feature, you can round up to the next euro with every payment made using your Tomorrow card. Those small cents turn into meaningful support for projects promoting climate justice and social equity. What’s a small contribution for each of us becomes a powerful collective impact.

Targeted support for women with migration backgrounds in Berlin

Berlin is home to 3.66 million people, nearly a quarter of whom are foreign nationals. Despite existing integration programs, migrant women often face systemic barriers such as discrimination, childcare responsibilities, and limited access to financial systems. These challenges make it harder to build independent and secure lives.

Project Tres addresses exactly these issues. Financial literacy is a foundation for self-determination, equality, and participation in society. The program strengthens women’s knowledge and confidence to help them gain financial independence and long-term stability.

The Rounding Up project with Project Tres

The team at Project Tres has successfully tested its empowerment model in India and Kenya, focusing on financial education, equality, and women’s independence in challenging contexts. Now, they are bringing this experience to Berlin.

Five women of Indian origin are sitting on a terrace around a laptop. The woman in the center is typing something on the keyboard, while the others watch with interest. They are wearing colorful traditional clothing, and colorful houses bathed in sunlight can be seen in the background.

The approach is holistic and intersectional, combining:

  • Migration & identity: Sharing personal stories and experiences

  • Cultural transition: Navigating integration while valuing one’s heritage

  • Financial literacy: Understanding banking, taxes, debt, and benefits

  • Income pathways: Exploring diverse models beyond traditional employment

  • Psycho-social empowerment: Building confidence and independence in money matters

The workshops create safe spaces where women can connect, learn, and support one another.

This can be achieved together with the Tomorrow Community:

  • 240 women reached through open events

  • 80 women complete the full workshop series

  • Participants gain financial security, confidence, and access to new income opportunities
